HHS Women's Board Membership

The Hinsdale Historical Society Women's Board is dedicated to supporting the Hinsdale Historical Society's mission to bridge the past, present, and future. By engaging the community with its history and architecture, the Women's Board fosters an appreciation of Hinsdale history and architecture through its membership, events and programs.

Ruta Brigden

Ruta, also known as “Buffy” during her high school badminton days, has lived in Hinsdale nine and a half years and has been tirelessly working with the Women’s Board for seven years. Ruta is a very active member. She has been a Kitchen Walk docent, a house captain, a Kitchen Walk co-chair (twice!), a Women’s Board co-president, co-chaired the Inaugural Holly Jolly Trolley, and co-chaired the Luncheon. She has loved doing all events for different reasons.

Ruta loves historic buildings. She says, “I think about what stories they hold, and how things have changed since it was built and how they have not.” Her favorite architecture is modernist (Mies van der Rohe). She like clean lines, efficient use of space, and lack of “clutter”.

Ruta loves new experiences……new restaurants and going to new places and events. She also loves new handbags and jewelry!  Ruta is most passionate about giving back and being fair. According to Ruta, “It sounds cliché, but it's been ingrained in me since I was a child. It’s why I volunteer, and it’s how I chose my career and job.”

Ruta’s favorite saying is “YOLO” (You Only Live Once). Her mom’s massive stroke eleven years ago made her believe in this “silly“ saying.  She is blessed with her husband Charlie, and they are the proud parents of two children and their newest family member (Johnny) Cash, an Australian Labradoodle.

Professionally, Ruta has been an enforcement attorney for the SEC for eighteen years. She warns “don’t violate the securities laws, I don’t want to have to investigate you!” Next on Ruta’s To-Do list – co-founding a “100 Women” club in Hinsdale. She is super excited to get this off the ground in 2020!

Meredyth Willits

Meredyth moved to Hinsdale from Fort Lauderdale two years ago and has been on the Women’s Board since arriving. She co-chairs the Women’s Board Social Committee and loves planning fun things for our members in order for them to stay connected throughout the year.

Meredyth’s favorite thing is to spend time with her family and friends. She enjoys going for walks, and to share a glass of wine with friends. She loves cooking and inviting friends over for a casual dinner with all the kids running around.

Meredyth’s passion is to help people be happy. According to Meredyth, “I am fed in my heart and soul when people are able to see that God is always working to help them on their journey.” Her favorite quote is her own, “God always has my back.” She is blessed with four wonderful kids, her lovely husband Jim, and Hadleigh the Border Collie/Australian Shepherd dog.

Professionally, Meredyth is a clairvoyant medium. She helps people with everything from career, to finding their own path, to coping with the death of a loved one. “When you can truly see that there is no death, I think it changes people forever. I try and help people see that the world isn’t as black and white as they might think it is," says Meredyth.

Next on Meredyth’s To-Do list is working with Irene Wood at The Fields of Michigan to create soul inspired weekends for women for the next glamping season……and she also needs to write “that" book.

This will help members easily “save-the-date” in their calendar. Just as we did last year, we plan to continue to offer up a variety of fun outings. Whether it be a social evening, luncheon, or special tour, members are sure to have fun with friends new and old. As events are scheduled, they will be added to our calendar on the website and shared with all members via our closed Facebook group.

Not a member of our group?  Join the Women's Board, and we will add you to our Facebook group.
